The Whole New World of Avatar

Who would ever forget about this blockbuster movie back in 2009? It swept the whole world with its state of the art effects, exceptional storyline and whole new characters. I guess everybody knows the story of this famous movie so no need to relate it again here in my post. Top grossing film of 2009 and became the talk of everyone all over the world. Even my myself watched this movie for like several times because I just can't get enough of it. It is the kind of movie that you would love for all time. You'll never have a dull time all throughout the movie and will really bring you to the whole new world so unimaginable.

Everyone will really be captivated by how the effects were made to appear so real. Even if you don't watch this one in 3D it will still get through your nerves. The computer generated images, scenes, and characters all looked so real to the human eyes. It is the kind of movie that crossed borders. It pleased everyone from the little children up to the old aged people who don't really want to watch such movies. This one captured the attention and tickled everyone to be hooked by its enticing appeal. Most of the people I know, just like me, watched this movie for a couple of times before getting over it.

Avatar taught everything about being human and being not. The Na'vi people or the humanoid ones in this film brought us to a whole new world and gave us a whole new experience. If only they were able to get along well with the humans. But this movie simply showed that amidst all struggles if we just work so hard to attain what is good for everyone and choose to live by it, we will always survive life triumphantly. It is also a story of true love, love which defies all odds, even specie. It perfectly showed how love can change everything. It is a feeling that every person is entitled to enjoy and should not be taken away once felt. It also depicts how friendship and trust can triumph among all other things, even the worst ones brought about by human discontentment and greed. All in all, this movie is sure to give you a quick tour of a whole new world and a lot of good life lessons that you are still to learn.

Avatar really is one of the best movies of all time and I am so much happy and honored to be living already to see it for myself. It's for everyone to watch and truly enjoy!

Dinosaur: See One in a Different Light

Dinosaur is an animated movie back in the year 2000. It was the second highly budgeted animated movie of all time and in the year 2000 it came next to the Final Fantasy series. It was no wonder why the movie felt so real because of the exceptional computer generated images and effects. It was supposed to be for my niece and my nephew to watch during that time but I seemed to be enjoying myself while watching the movie and later on I realized that it was already one of my favorite animated movies among all the others that I've watched.

It was a story of a baby dinosaur, I forgot about what kind of dinosaur Aladar was, that's too bad! By the way his name was Aladar and he was a carnivorous dinosaur with no canines teeth so he was perfectly safe. He was left to the care of a group of lemurs when his mother ran away from a T-Rex which just came out of nowhere in their peaceful village. He was the only one left among his siblings and he wasn't able to meet his mother again after that incident. He went through a lot right before hatching from his eggshell. He was carried by another dinosaur which found him lying on the ground, fell into the river, was carried by a flying dinosaur, and was accidentally dropped into the forest. He was found by lemurs who decided to adopt him in their clan. Aladar grew up around the lemurs. He was the only dinosaur but he went along with them very well. E grew up to be a sweet and caring dino for the lemurs. He played with the kids and let them rode on his back. They had a wonderful life until the historic meteor shower happened which destroyed their place and killed almost everyone in the lemur clan.

Aladar and four other lemurs survived the shower and they traveled a lot and later found a herd of dinosaurs in which Aladar found his kind. They decided to follow the herd and Aladar proved his bravery and kindness to others by slowing down for the older and weaker dinosaurs at the back to protect them. They were heading to the “nesting grounds” in which according to the story was the only place untouched by the meteor shower. They went through a lot, others left dying on the trails because of too much heat and starvation. There were a few T-Rex who followed the herd and Aladar killed one of them to protect Neera, the beautiful dinosaur of his kind in the herd. At long last they were able to reach the nesting grounds and from then on a lot of new baby dinosaurs came to life including Aladar and Neera's baby. All ended well for all the dinosaurs who were able to make it to the nesting grounds.

The story may sound quite boring for a lot of people especially those who have prejudices with animated movies. It's fair enough, there are a lot of mediocre animated movies, even some of the latest ones but on the case of this movie, it's highly exceptional. This is not even close to mediocrity. Everything felt so real and the story was really good, yes especially for children but also have other valuable life lessons which even adults still have to learn like being strong in the midst of hopelessness and giving sincere care for friends and even for strangers. Maybe it was just me who liked this one so much but I am very proud to say that. It was a great honor for me to be given the chance to watch such a good movie. I may watch many other animated movies in the future but this one already has a special place in my heart.

Some things start out big, and some things start out small, very small. But sometimes the smallest thing can make the biggest changes of all.

Battle Los Angeles: Survival of the Human Specie

I've never seen such an action movie with the same amount of drama and inspiration this 2011. Battle Los Angeles was of this kind.

I was never really into action movies. My nephew from his university goes home each weekend with new movies from his dorm mates. Since this one is new and I haven't seen it yet I gave it a try. It didn't disappoint me with its exciting action scenes and touching story.

The setting of this movie, as far as I can remember was August 2011. It was shown right before the movie started and we thought, “so, is this what is going to happen this August?”. Well while and after watching the movie I hope it's not. According to the movie, on August 2011 aliens will be colonizing the world. The story also depicted that aliens found the earth the most attractive planet to colonize because of our waters. The earth is mostly made up of water and these aliens were using the waters from the oceans to fuel themselves and their spaceships. The aliens looked weird but just as like the usual depiction of an alien in any other movies I think. The movie was action-packed and focused on one group of marines who were deployed in Los Angeles to rescue remaining civilians before the “Bomb Drop”. The battle between the soldiers and the aliens lasted for several hours in the movie and as usual, America looked like a burning furnace amidst the invasion and of course, there was the most common scene – the damaged San Francisco bridge in California.

Just like the usual action movies the marines was able to find out how to defeat the aliens, it was to destroy its control center which they were able to find on their way back to their headquarters. The few remaining marines who were deployed in Los Angeles lead by their Staff Sergeant went off and fought up to their last strengths to destroy the alien control center and they were able to go home triumphantly.

I never really liked action movies before of the action scenes which I sometimes find brutal. But as for this one, I think it's the touching story of teamwork and bravery of these marines who were deployed in Los Angeles which made me like it more than the other movies of its kind. I was also able to see clearly how marines and people who are working in the military are so brave to risk their own lives in battles even if it sometimes feel like they can never win. They are really brave people and I salute them for that.

Changeling: The Story of a Mother

I have watched quite a lot of Angelina Jolie movies but this one deviated from the usual plots. It wasn't an action movie in which Jolie rises up as the victorious heroine. It's way too far from that actually. This movie was based on the real life story of Christine Collins back in 1928 to early 1930's. The story revolved around her and her son who just disappeared.

Christine and her daughter Walter, a 9-year old boy lived their normal life at the beginning of the movie. Everything seemed to be fine at first. She goes to work everyday, dropping and picking up Walter in school each time. She was a loving and smart mother. She taught her son to be strong despite the absence of his father. She was always telling Walter that his father didn't hate him which was what the boy thought for the absence of his father. She told her son that his father was just too afraid to face his responsibilities as a father which prompted him to live. Another thing that was really memorable for me in this movie was when she told Walter his number one rule which is, “Never start a fight, always finish it.” For me it's a good life principle to live by. They went on like that everyday until one day when she went home from work she found Walter missing. She asked for him from the Los Angeles Police District (LAPD) to look for her son. They did but unfortunately during that time a lot of children were already missing and the church was blaming and criticizing the police department of its incompetence in resolving the crime. Out of desperation of the LAPD, they brought in a boy and presented to the media that he was Mrs. Collins' son but actually he was way too far to be her son. It was a good image for the media to be able to reunite a mother and a long lost son but unfortunately it was only made for political intentions.

Mrs. Collins perfectly knew who her child was and refused to accept the boy as hers. She went through a lot, even being forcefully admitted to a psychopathic ward only to insist that her son was still missing. Later on, a separate boy who was about to be deported back to Canada told one of the police officers that his uncle uncle murdered like twenty children in is farm. Unfortunately he identified Walter as one of the many boys who was once their in the farm. His uncle was caught by the police and was hanged for multiple counts of murder but that was not able to bring back Walter. By the end part of the movie, a another young boy came out and told the authorities that he was one of the kids who escaped from the farm and he was with Walter Collins. Christine on the other hand, was triumphantly rescued from the psychopathic ward and won her case over the police department. Since then she never stopped looking for her son and never stopped hoping that one day he will also come out in the open and be back home with her.

Of all the things that Mrs. Collins went through, she remained strong and reserved. She never lost the hope and kept on looking for her missing child for years. She was able to go on living without forgetting to call the authorities each day to ask for updates on her son's case. Other mothers could have gone mad if she was just not that strong enough to face and handle herself properly. It was just a little sad because the story didn't really say if she was really able to find her son. But of all the things she already went through looking for him, I knew that she was strong enough to face any facts which she might had encountered. She was a survivor and one of the bravest mother I've known so far. And Jolie was really the most suitable actress to portray her role. It suited her character perfectly. It was a sad but pretty inspiring story.

Perfume: The Story of A Murderer - A Review

I always watch movies, like everyday, but seldom do I find movies which leave a mark on my mind and in my heart. I can still remember when I was still in college; I was on my first year that time, when our teacher made us see a film for our Literature class. That was my first film showing ever! But that wasn’t the reason why that experience was so memorable to me. It was all about the movie that we’ve watched. It was entitled “Perfumo”, 5 years ago. The more recent title is written above.

It was a story of a boy (Jean-Baptiste Grenouille) – came out from an evil mother in a filthy and crowded marketplace. His mother tried to get rid of him right after his birth. At first he wasn’t crying and so she thought he was dead but fortunately, he was able to cry out loud after smelling the filthy environment. He was able to use his sense of smell first which made him develop his extraordinary olfactory sense.

Unlike any other children, everything about him since the start of the movie was different. The first cry of a baby is usually the happiest sound that parents are eagerly waiting right after a mother gives birth. In Grenouille’s case, his first cry caused his mother’s death. She was hanged because she tried to kill her own child. How sad could that be for a start?

Grenouille grew up in different places with different people around him. As he grew, his olfactory sense became exceptional. He can imagine a pond from afar just by the smell of it which was carried by the wind to the orphanage where he once stayed. Everything could have been good for him until he accidentally killed a woman whose smell enchanted him. What made everything worst was when he worked for a perfumer in Paris. He was taught how to mix fumes and how to preserve the smell of something. That later turned out to be his greatest addiction. He really wanted to create the perfect scent and unfortunately, he found the perfect source – women. He killed a lot of women whose scents became his “ingredients” for his perfect scent. He was really able to create the perfect scent but it was just so sad that he still had to die. I didn’t want him to because even if he was so evil to kill women, he did that for his passion. He is the kind of person who can do everything to get his way, in a negative way though. But I still liked him.

This kind of story is something that I will never ever forget. It wasn’t like the fairytale stories that we use to enjoy. Yes, Grenouille’s life ended in a tragedy but at least he was strong enough to face all the consequences of his actions. I believe that he created the perfect scent for the people in his home town to experience real happiness, something they felt when he let them all smell the perfume he made. I know that deep inside him is his sincere intention to give the people in his filthy community the greatest feeling the weren't and will never be able to experience. He gave up his life for that and what more can be braver than that? Yes he was a murderer but someone who still had a big place for goodness in his heart.

"There was only one thing the perfume could not do. It could not turn him into a person who could love and be loved like everyone else."
