Wanted: A Movie to be Reviewed

“...In fact, the only thing I do care about is the fact that I can't care about anything.” This is the only line which really left it's mark on my head in this movie. I still had to rewind the exact scene for like a couple of times for me to be able to get the exact line. It was powerful enough for me to stop watching and repeat the scene for a couple of times. It is very seldom do I see movies with lines that really leave me contemplating.

This movie, I was just enticed to watch primarily because Angelina Jolie was one of the main characters. With James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and Angelina Jolie, even if I wasn't that into action movies, I was sure that I would really enjoy the movie. Well, aside from the loads of “F” word in this one, I was able to enjoy the story and the action scenes.

It's a story of Wesley played by James McAvoy. At first he was jut a simple office worker with a very demanding and obnoxious boss who always gave him the “anxiety attacks”, or so he thought. Later on he realized that it wasn't just a simple anxiety attack but a normal condition which runs in his blood. It all came clear to him when the character of Jolie explained to him that his father was a former assassin and he was with Jolie's group right before he died. He learned that his father was killed by a previous member of the group, Cross, who became rogue. He was made to believe all these things. He trained so hard to be strong enough to face his father's assassin to avenge his father's father's death. He was made to kill quite a lot of people before his day to kill Cross. He was able to make it at last but it was so sad when he had learned later on that the person he wanted to kill so much was his real father. Jolie confirmed that Cross was his real father and they trained him to kill Cross because the group knew that Cross will never kill his own son. And to add insult to injury, it's now Jolie's turn to kill him after he killed his own father. Jolie didn't succeed and just like the usual action movie in which the good triumphs over evil thing, Wesley was able to get back to the assassin's hideout, fought, and at the end, he was the last man standing. After some time he was also able to kill the character of Morgan Freeman, the leader of his father's group when he tried to kill him in his office.

So that was it, from a normal office worker with frequent anxiety attacks to a well-trained assassin. At least Wesley will never be able to say the words he once said which I quoted above. After what had happened, he found out what he was meant to be, what he should be doing, and who he really was. He was able to gain everything he needed to know about himself by losing everything and killing his own father. It was a sad irony of life but I was still happy because Wesley is much stronger after what happened to him. And that concluded the whole of the story. I guess life is really an irony, you will never be able to gain of you don't lose anything. We just have to be strong enough to face the consequences life offer in able to survive this cruel world.
