PRIEST: Your Religious Kind of A Vampire Movie

I have just finished watching Priest tonight, just a few minutes ago. My ideas are all fresh in my mind that I don’t want to sleep it over even if I am already tired and sleepy.

This movie remodeled the relationship between humans and vampires. It was said that they co-existed and always had to fight each other for survival. It’s the first time for me to hear that there were already vampires ever since the world began.

The whole story, as suggested by the title itself gave most emphasis on Priests. Priests were the champions of during the human vs. vampire war. But after the tensions had faded and so they thought that the war was finally over, the Priests were not given any more importance by the “Cities” which are ruled by a clergy. The clergy, during times of war, ever since, was most powerful and influential. It’s interesting how they can use religion to manipulate people. I don’t have anything against religion here, I am just writing what I saw. Moving on, the story was all about fighting – priests ripping off vampire bodies and vampires “eating” or sucking out all the blood out of every people. The very usual scenes we can find in vampire movies. It’s just that this one had imparted issues about faith, religion, and war. If there were no vampires, I would really think that this one is a re-make of the World Wars that happened years and years ago.

Well, just like any other movies, it had a happy ending. The Priest was able to rescue his daughter from the vampires and was able to prove to the unbelieving clergy and citizens of the city that vampires still existed, contrary to what everyone thought. It showed that even love can surpass faith. The Priests’ love for his daughter made him break the rules set by the clergy among Priests. Blood really is thicker than water. I was just a little bit disappointed because the movie somewhat fell short of my expectations. The story was very predictable and there seems to be a part II. The story was not concluded and I hate movies which are done in installments, except for Ice Age of course! But then I was able to enjoy the fight scenes and one more thing which kept me hanging on this movie is Paul Bettany. I watched quite a lot of his movies already, Da Vinci Code, Legion, and A Beautiful Mind. I sort of like them all and this made me watch this latest one. So far so he is good. I will be eagerly waiting for more of his movies.
